Young Buck in a Streaming Forest – This is a male deer camouflaged in the density of the forest as sunlight began to abait into another sunset. Typically male deer are the bucks in the deer population and this is a young buck disguising itself amid the vegetation along a stream in Appalachia. White-tailed deer are the most common species found in this region of the country. Population density of this deer varies by region, with higher numbers in the western most part of the mountains. Habitat loss and fragmentation have impacted deer numbers and distribution. Predation by natural predators, such as coyotes, influences male deer survival rates. Environmental factors, including food availability and weather conditions, is the "beauty in detail" that affects the population dynamics of this young buck surviving in the eco-system around it.
