The Old Wagon Wheel – This painting is a capture of an out-of-service wagon wheel with a broken axle, of course, a wheel wihout an axle to turn it has minimum functionality. The wheel and axle is a simple machine, consisting of a wheel attached to a smaller axle so that these two parts rotate together, in which a force is transferred from one to the other; the wheel and axle can aso be viewed as a version of the lever, another simple machine. The wheel and axle were invented between 3700-3500 BCE the earliest evidence comes from Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). They were initially used for pottery making before transportation. The technology spread rapidly across various ancient civilizations, it revolutionized transport and trade, enhancing efficiency and is fundamental to many modern machines and vehicles. There is so much "beauty in detail" with the many uses of this simple machine as one lies dysfunctional in a patch of grass, the other is rather functional, being used to bale hay in the background.
