Black Wolf in Appalachia– Black wolves are a protected species in many national parks. The fur of a black wolf was once considered by the natives of New England to be worth over 40 beaver skins. A chieftain accepting a gift of black wolf fur was recognized as an act of reconciliation. Their natural habitats are in heavy forest, tendras, and mountainous areas. In North America they thrive predominately in Canada and northern parts of the United States, that's why it is a rarity to capture a black wolf in Apalachia.
